Speak anywhere. It types for you.

H-I Voice lives in your tray. Press the hotkey in any app, say what you mean, and the same speech model that powers chat dictation writes the words straight into the field you were already in.

Windows

Desktop app

Download directly

Installer

Adds a Start Menu shortcut. 94 MB

Portable

No install. Run the file directly. 94 MB

macOS

macOS 11 Big Sur and later.

Linux

X11 or Wayland, 64-bit.

Three keys and your voice

There is no window to switch to and no transcript to copy. The app watches for one hotkey and writes into whatever already had your cursor.

  1. ⌨

    01

    Press the hotkey

Ctrl + Space by default, in any application. A white frame lights the edge of the display you are working on so you know it is listening.

  2. ✦

    02

    Say what you mean

The frame reacts to your voice while you talk. Press Esc at any point to throw the take away: nothing is typed, and no further audio is sent.

  3. ✓

    03

    The words land

Press the hotkey again and the text appears in the field you were already typing in. No window ever steals your focus.

Built to stay out of the way

Two ways to trigger

Toggle mode presses once to start and once to finish. Hold mode records only while the key is down, and a tap shorter than 320ms latches recording on instead of discarding what you said.

The microphone is not held open

The input device is opened when a take starts and released the moment it ends or is cancelled, so your operating system never shows H-I Voice using the microphone while it sits idle in the tray.

Audio is not kept

Speech is captured in memory, encoded, sent for transcription in pieces while you talk, and dropped. No recording is written to disk or kept after the text comes back. The text of recent takes stays on your computer as a history you can clear or switch off. The optional polish step sends the transcript, and by default the name and title of the window you are typing into, to a chat model on your account.

Rebindable hotkey

Any combination with a modifier, or a bare function key. A modifier is required on purpose: a global shortcut swallows the key everywhere, so binding Space alone would stop you typing spaces in every application.

Insert or type

Text is inserted with the clipboard by default and the previous clipboard contents can be restored afterwards. Applications that block paste can be switched to synthetic typing.

Runs on login

Optionally starts hidden with your session and parks in the tray. Closing the window never quits the app; the hotkey keeps working until you quit from the tray.

What it costs to talk

H-I Voice uses the Hi Voice speech model, metered exactly like everything else on your account. The app requires a Pro or Ultimate plan, or prepaid API credit on a free account.

Pro and Ultimate

Drawn from your subscription allowance, shown under the API key split.

Prepaid credit

$2.00 per 1M audio tokens in, $8.00 per 1M transcript tokens out.

Free accounts

Not supported in the desktop app. Dictation inside web chat stays free.

Roughly

About 2,400 audio tokens per minute of speech, plus the transcript.

Worth knowing

A Pro or Ultimate plan, or prepaid credit

Sign in from the app with your Hashed Intelligence account, or paste an API key. The app checks your plan at sign-in and tells you straight away if the account cannot use it. Free accounts without prepaid credit are not able to dictate through the desktop app; dictation inside web chat is unaffected.

On Windows, the Store version installs without a warning

Apps from the Microsoft Store are signed by Microsoft, so Windows installs H-I Voice from there without asking. The installer and portable build on this page are not yet signed with a purchased Authenticode certificate, so Windows may show SmartScreen on first launch: choose More info, then Run anyway.

macOS asks for two permissions

Microphone, to hear you, and Accessibility, so the transcribed text can be pasted into the app you were using.

Linux needs a paste helper

Install xdotool on X11 or ydotool on Wayland if text does not land in the focused field. Hold-to-talk is Windows-only; toggle mode works everywhere.

Stop typing what you could say.

H-I Voice is a free download. Using it needs a Pro or Ultimate plan, or prepaid API credit on a free account.
